-The expert committee provides their expertise to prepare the history books

Chandigarh: Education Minister of Punjab Mr. Om Parkash Soni said that the 11th and 12th class students will get reading material of history chapter wise in next 15 days.

This decision has been taken in a meeting under the chairmanship of Education Minister here today. Mr. Soni said that the history of Punjab is distinguished and Sikh warriors played a key role to give the direction to the course of the history. He said that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s heartfelt desire is that the children of Punjab have the knowledge about their rich culture and heritage. He had been set up this committee to rectify the flaws from the history books of class 11th and 12th.

During the meeting, Dr. Kirpal Singh, Chairperson of the expert committee said that Punjab has a profound influence on this entire region’s history. He said that contemporary emperors were using curse words about Sikhs but they were convinced by the perception about the sacrifices of Sikhs to save the dignity of this country. He categorically said that today our youth should not be well aware of their distinguished history. They should have the knowledge of their elders so that they can make their characters like their great elders. Therefore the proposed books should have the content which inspired our younger generation.

About the profile of the book, expert committee member Dr. Indu Banga said that while preparing the history book of 12th class, it will be kept in mind that when students study the history of Punjab, they will also be familiar with contemporary Indian history too.

Taking into account the future of students, it was decided in this joint meeting that chapter wise learning material will be provided in fifteen days to the students and it will also be uploaded on the board’s website. Committee also decided that entire book will be printed by December.

Mr. Soni also assured the expert committee to provide all types of support so that the history books should be printed in stipulated time. In this meeting Dr. J.S. Grewal, Dr. Prithipal Singh Kapoor, Dr. Balwant Singh Dhillon and Inderjit Singh Gogoani (all members of the expert committee), Mr. Krishan Kumar, Secretary School Education, Mr. Manohar Kant Chairman of Punjab School Education Board, Mr. Prashant Goyal, Director General School Education cum Vice Chairman and other officers were also present.
