DGP Dinkar Gupta has selected 25 Punjab Police officers across districts for the coveted ‘Director General of Police Honour for Exemplary Sewa to Society’ for their exceptional community service on the frontlines of the COVID-19 operations and response activities in the state.

The awardees include four SPs, one ASP, one DSP, six Inspectors, four Sub-Inspectors, three ASIs, two Head Constables and four Constables. The award honours those who have done outstanding work by going beyond the call of duty in various kinds of humanitarian activities.

Gupta said they were selected from the various nominations sent by the Commissioners of Police and SSPs, for the award introduced on the initiative of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, in the light of the scale and sacrifice of the over 45000 policemen who were working relentlessly across the state, along with social and religious organizations, to realize his resolve that ‘no man will sleep hungry in Punjab’.

Ms. Vatsala Gupta, ASP Nakodar, did pioneering work in reaching out to the poor and underprivileged slum dwellers of Nakodar town, while DSP Varinder Jit Singh of Ropar ensured the supply of essential goods to the poor and needy by mobilising volunteers. SI Jatin Kapoor of Ropar motivated the Panchayats to impose a voluntary lockdown of their villages.

SHO Bhagwant Singh of Kharar (Mohali) proactively carried out the tracking and tracing of suspect coronavirus cases. Similarly, SI Neeraj Chaudhary of SBS Nagar took the risk of visiting the isolated corona patients to trace the contacts where the patients refused to cooperate with the epidemiologist and other doctors.

SI Shohrat Mann of Pathankot is doing commendable work for the welfare of the people of Pathankot by providing food to the poor and the downtrodden. SI Ms. Shakunt Chaudhary of Fatehgarh Sahib has done commendable work as Incharge of a critical Naka point, said the DGP, giving details of the work done by some of the awardees.
