Britain Police Warns Indians Over Gold

LONDON: As a caveat (warning) to families who may have possession of valuables such as gold jewellery to be extra cautious, since the Scotland Yard police have released a video of an elderly Indian-origin couple, who were being robbed in their home in the south-east London prior this year.

Usually around the Navratri and Diwali festive time, the country’s largest police force issues a warning as the Indian-origin families likely to wear some of their valuables at functions.

The Metropolitan Police said, “The festival period tends to see a spike in this type of crime largely due to more jewellery being worn as communities travel across London to different venues – whether temples or to other people’s homes.”

During the last financial year, there were 1,891 robberies including South Asian-origin victims in London, said the UK police.
