-CIVIL AND POLICE ADMINISTRATION CHALK OUT A JOINT STRATEGY TO WIPE OUT THE DRUGS
-SURPRISE CHECKING OF CHEMISTS AND DRUG DE-ADDICTION CENTRES
LUDHIANA, July 4: In order to wipe out the drug menace in Ludhiana, the civil and police administration have chalked out a joint strategy to crackdown on the drugs.
An important meeting of civil and police officials held in Bachat Bhawan which was chaired by deputy commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal.
In a major decision taken in the meeting that suitable action will be taken against the chowkidar and nambardar of the concerned village where drug menace is prevalent and drug peddlers are being arrested consistently from their village.
Agrawal said that chowkidar and, nambardar usually have information about the black sheep who are involved in the drug peddling but they do not inform the police about them.
He said that it is their duty to give tip-off about those black sheep so that action can be taken accordingly. DC clearly ordered that if any drug abuse related incident or deaths reported from any village, three of them will be held responsible.
He asked all sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) and deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) to call a meeting with chowkidars and nambardar of their areas and sensitize them about new directives.
He also told SDMs to identify the drug affected villages and personally visit those villages to motivate the villagers to give their support in making Punjab a drug free state. Further, surprise checking will be carried out in all drug-de-addiction centers.
The health department has been ordered that each SMO will con
duct checking of chemist shops daily. Moreover, Nasha Mukt village will be declared in each sub-division when each drug addict in the concerned village put on treatment.

He said that without the support of the public, it is difficult to make the drug free Punjab and solicited their active participation to wipe out the menace completely. He also asked the people to give information about the black sheep and their name will be kept secret.Giving a warning to the officials, he said that any type of carelessness will not be tolerated and the negligent will face strict action.
On the occasion, SSP Jagraon Surjeet Singh, DCP Ashwani Kapur, ADC (D) Shena Aggarwal, ADC Khanna Ajay Sood, and others were present in the meeting.
