CNN is taking legal action after the White House ban CNN’s Chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta, a lawsuit has been filed against President Donald Trump and others in his administration.

This is a historic moment for press freedom in the United States.

A lawsuit by CNN and Jim Acosta against President Trump and several other top aides has been filed.

A statement issued by CNN said, “CNN filed a lawsuit against the trump Administration this morning in DC District Court. It demands the return of the White House credentials of CNN’s Chief White House correspondent, Jim Acosta.”

“The wrongful revocation of these credentials violates CNN and Acosta’s First Amendment rights of freedom of the press and their Fifth Amendment rights to due process. We have asked this court for an immediate restraining order requiring the pass be returned to Jim, and will seek permanent relief as part of this process,” added CNN.

Essentially, it means that CNN is asking for an immediate hearing in District Court to get a temporary order to get Acosta’s press pass back right way.

Then CNN will also seek court a permanent relief so that this doesn’t happen again in the future.

In a statement released by CNN, it said, “While the suit is specific to CNN and Acosta, this could happen anyone. If left unchallenged, the actions of the White House would create a dangerous chilling effect for any journalist who covers our elected officials.”
