Chandigarh, May 28: Cracking a whip on shopkeepers charging more than MRP  of essentials goods, Punjab Consumer Affairs department has conducted state wide checkings . A total of 1325 Shops & Chemist Shops have been raided throughout the state.  .The Legal Metrology department has imposed penalties worth rupees 11,02,000 . This was disclosed here today By Consumer Affairs and Civil Supplies Minister Punjab Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu.

Emphasising on the need of  to curb the menance of overpricing, Mr. Ashu said that the department has received 7 complaints regarding charging of overpricing of essential commodities Prompt action has been taken . Total 186 cases have been booked   under various provisions of Packaged Commodities Regulation Rules under Legal MetrologyAct 2009.Compounding has been done in 176 cases

The Minister said that on the directives of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the department is diligently working to ensure that the essential commodities must be sold at MRP or below it.
