Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a recent interview confirmed that his government had recovered of Rs. 14,000 crores worth of assets of embattled liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya.

“We brought in a law that enabled the Indian government to confiscate property of fugitives in any part of the world. You must’ve seen in the case of Vijay Mallya. He owed banks Rs 9000 crore but the government has confiscated his properties worth Rs 14,000 crore from across the world. Now, he is in trouble because we are taking double the amount,” said the Prime Minister.

Referring to this statement Mallya claimed that this statement by PM Modi has fully vindicated him in his claim of being a “poster boy” for the BJP government.

In a series of tweets, Vijay Mallya noted: Saw PM Modi’s interview in which he takes my name and says that even though I owe Rs. 9,000 crores to Banks, his Govt has attached my assets worth Rs. 14,000 crores. So the highest authority has confirmed full recovery. Why do BJP spokesmen continue their rhetoric?”

Through his usual way of issuing statements via social media platforms, the former Kingfisher Airlines boss said that by PM Modi’s own declaration that the recovery of assets was higher than the alleged Rs. 9,000 crores he owed. Vijay Mallya faces deportation to India on scam charges.

The 63-yar-old, also criticized the BJP government for the alleged differential treatment meted out to Kingfisher. Mallya tweeted and said that his efforts to save Kingfisher Airlines was “not recognized and instead slammed in every possible way”.

Vijay Mallya has been alleging through twitter that he has been subjected to unfair treatment.
