Sikhs in Pakistan have been exempted from wearing helmets while riding motorbikes in Peshawar.

The exemption was allowed by the Peshawar police when the matter was brought up by a member of the minority community in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly.

Only Sikhs who wear turban are benefited by this exemption.

More than 60,000 Sikhs reside in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, adding 15,000 who dwell in Peshawar alone.

Till the end of September, the CTPL (City Traffic Police Lahore) had issued more than 58,066 tickets to motorbikers who were riding bikes without helmets in the provincial capital.

While the SSP of Peshawar Traffic Police,  Kashif Zulfiqar ensured full cooperation with the minority communities.

The prices of helmets increased just when the campaign was launched by the CTPL.
