CHANDIGARH, November 27: Patiala MP and former Minister of State for External Affairs, Ms Preneet Kaur today urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the concerns of farmers who are protesting against the new farm laws all along the Grand Trunk Road and around the national capital.

Ms Kaur condemned the high handedness and use of brutal force by the Haryana government against the farmers who were marching towards Delhi to stage a peaceful protest there.

In a statement issued here today, Ms Kaur regretted that the union government remained unmoved even though the farmers have been protesting against the central farm laws for the last two months. “Ideally it should have been the union government which should have reached out to them”, she observed, while adding, “when the farmers were trying to knock at the doors of the central government they were showered with lathis, teargas shells and water canons”.

The former External Affairs Minister hoped that the central government will now listen to the farmers’ apprehensions and address these without letting itself be misguided by vested interests. “The farmers have genuine concern and apprehension against the discontinuance of the Minimum Support Price”, she said, while observing that there should not be any problem in the central government allaying these fears with legal measures and safeguards.
