The Punjab Education Department has initiated a special health awareness campaign for the students of government schools in the state.

Divulging the details about this campaign, an official spokesperson said that school students must be aware about the health issues because if the students will be healthy, they will concentrate on their studies and attend their classes regularly.

He said that school curriculum has been revised and contents on ill-effects of drugs have been incorporated in the books. Essay reading and poem recitation by students and small lectures by teachers held in the morning assembly to generate awareness in students against the drugs and other health issues. The spokesperson said that students studying from class 9 to 12 standard were also educated about the adverse effects of the drugs and is given special consideration to educate about the harm caused by intoxicants. Besides this, common causes of sickness and home remedies were also taught.

The school students are being educated on various health issues and personal hygiene. Girl student are being sensitized on menstruation health & hygiene and mental and physical changes in adolescent stage.

The school children are being taught not to waste water but to conserve it since it is a precious resource for life. They are also being taught to harvest rain water for its usage for sanitation in school. The spokesperson further said that career counseling of the students is also being done.
