The global conservation group World Wide Fund (WWF) on Tuesday warned that the “runaway consumption” has reduced the global wildlife, turned up mass extinction and exhausted the capacity of the Earth to accommodate humans expanding desires.

According to WWF’s Living Planet report, from 1974 till 2014, about 60% of all animals with a backbone such as amphibians, birds, fish, mammals and reptiles, were annihilated by human activities and desires.

The report was based on a survey in which over 4,000 species were wiped out by more than 16,700 populations scattered from one corner of the globe to another.

Marco Lambertini, WWF International Director General told, “The situation is really bad, and it keeps getting worse.”

“The only good news is that we know exactly what is happening,” Marco added.
