Offices in over 39 countries, a non-governmental environmental organization, Greenpeace recently released a report based on air quality data collected in 2018 around the globe.

Revealing the resources the reported stated, “These sources include government monitoring networks as well as validated data from air quality monitors operated by private individuals and organizations.”

According to the reports hi is the most polluted capital in the world, while Gurugram is the most polluted city.

Just among the most polluted cities, the ranking differs as Delhi is at the 11th spot and Gurugram is at top, with an annual average PM2.5 reading of 135.8 micrograms per cubic metre.

The second-most polluted capital is Dhaka at 97.1 micrograms per cubic metre and the second-most polluted city Ghaziabad with 135.2 micrograms per cubic metre.

The annual permissible limit for PM2.5 is 40ug/m3 according to the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.

On the other hand, the annual permissible limits prescribed by the World Health Organization are even lower at 10ug/m3.​
