Palu (Indonesia): Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited Palu, a coastal city on Sulawesi Island on Sunday, which was hit by 7.5 magnitude earthquake that caused the tsunami with waves as high as 20 feet (six metres) two days back.

The death toll from the tsunami and quake has risen to 834 confirmed on Sunday.

Widodo said that the government will ensure improvement to damaged facilities, fuel supply, better communication, heavy equipment delivery so that the rehabilitation and reconstruction stages can start immediately.

While the Vice-President Jusuf Kalla said that the toll could rise to thousands as rescuers struggle to reach remote communities cut off from communication and help.

Reports are flooding in from remote areas like Donggala, a region of 300,000 people north of Palu and closer to the epicentre of the quake and two other districts as well.

Indonesia is one of the most disaster-prone countries on the earth.

So far this year, a series of powerful earthquakes hit Lombok, killing over 550 people on the island and neighbouring Sumbawa.
