In his message, the Chief Minister described Jainacharya Shree Vijay Vallabh Surishwer ji as ‘one of the most erudite Saints of recent times (1870-1954 AD)’ and exhorted the people to emulate the example of the Jain saint who selflessly worked to spread Lord Mahavira’s message of non-violence and universal peace.

Recalling Jainacharya Surishwer ji’s immense contribution to spreading education in every nook and corner of the country, the Chief Minister said Punjab had been a major beneficiary of his social endeavours. A Gurukul established in Gujranwala 100 years ago, and a host of colleges and schools in Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Malerkotla, Zira, Jandiala Guru, Nakodar, Sunam and Fazilka, were a living testimony to the Saint’s far-sighted vision in the field of education, he added.

Describing the Saint as a great social reformer, the Chief Minister said that the real tribute to Jainacharya Shree Vijay Vallabh Surishwer ji on the culmination of his year-long Saardh Janma Shatabdi (150th Birth Anniversary) would be to imbibe his teachings of peace, harmony, compassion and brotherhood.
