California – Ten people are killed and ten others got injured when a man opened fired in a mass shooting in the city of Monetery Park in the US state of California. The department of Sherrif of Los Angeles County, Capt. Andrew Meyer confirmed the details of incident.
News reports said a man had opened fire at a local dance studio at around 10 pm on Saturday. The incident reportedly took place near the downtown area where the Monterey Park Lunar New Year festival is held each year. It is said that around tens of thousands people gathering was there to start the largest event of Lunar New Year festivities.
The Monetery Park Police immediately rushed to the incident scene and confirmed 10 people killed and treated 10 injured who were rushed to the local hospital. The injured are told to be in various conditions from stable to critical, the police said.
The Chief Scott, meanwhile have told that the event of Lunar New Year festivities have been cancelled considering further caution. But it is not clear yet whether the suspect is arrested or still at large.
Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations event is the biggest in the area. The New Year festivities were scheduled from 10 am to 9 pm. Videos that have surfaced on social media showed the presence of police and fire units on Garvey Avenue and treating victims.
The news reports said people present at the spot told that there was a man carrying machine gun in the area.
