Chandigarh – Punjab Advocate General Advocate Anmol Rattan Sidhu who was appointed around four months back has resigned from the post. It was the talk of the town all day long.

There was a buzz that Sidhu wanted to build his team of his own choice to run AG office but political pressure was there to accomodate many other names.It was also said he had a tiff with a bureaucrat but Sidhu denied when he was asked a ‍question.  However , Advocate Anmol Rattan Sidhu maintained he is leaving or resigning for his own personal reasons.

The name of senior lawyer practising in criminal cases , Vinod Ghai, is sent to Governor and file is yet to get approval who is likely to replace Sidhu.  Ghai while in a media interaction outside the Punjab and Haryana High Court said he knew no one in Aam Aadmi Party and his name has come up for the post on merit basis. He said no doubt the position is highly challenging in nature but he would try his level best to represent state in righteous manner.

On the other side, the opposition parties Congress, Akali Dal Sanyukt and Shiromani Akali have strongly critiicised this  move of the state government.

President of Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee president Baljit Singh Daduwal opposed the name of Advocate Ghai for appointment as Advocate General of Pujab saying that he has been representing dera chief Ram Rahim in Behbal Kalan case.
