3. The plight of the farming community is very miserable. Rather, the viability of the entire agriculture sector is at stake. Continuously depleting water-table, availability of unchecked spurious seeds and pesticides/insecticides, the high rates of fertilizers etc. are killing agriculture. The livestock of the farmers is also under great challenge. Various diseases transmitted from the animals entering from other states unchecked are adding to the woes of the farmers. The killer lump skin is the latest example.

4. Infrastructures such as roads, hospitals, medical colleges etc. are essentially boosters for the development of the state. Punjab needs a package from the center for this purpose. Kapurthala Medical College is waiting for ribbon cutting only.

5. Industry in Punjab is minimal. As a big source of employment to the skilled people, it plays a vital role in the journey of progress. We need to revive the industrial sector by giving them tax-holidays, freight cut and other various exemptions to boost the investment in this sector.

“Punjab is a thickly populated border state and its people are both courageous and laborious. Ready to lay down their lives for the nation, they deserve an extra dose of love and affection from the center and, as such, I have to appeal to the Prime Minister to help Punjab and its people to come out of existing challenges,” said the Kapurthala MLA.
