Canada recorded the largest cumulative number of incidents among Canada, the US and UK between 2021 and 2025
NEW DELHI, July 24, 2026 — The number of attacks on Indian nationals reported to India’s diplomatic missions in the United States increased to 14 in 2025, according to information placed before the Rajya Sabha by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh provided the figures in a written response to a question from MP Jose K. Mani on July 23.
The ministry’s data showed 11 reported attacks in the United States during 2024, compared with 14 in 2025. The corresponding numbers were one in 2021, six in 2022 and one in 2023. The five-year US total was therefore 33.
The broader information supplied by Indian missions covered reported attacks, hate crimes, discrimination and other forms of violence involving Indian nationals or people of Indian origin in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Canada recorded 36 such incidents between 2021 and 2025—the highest cumulative figure among the three countries. The United Kingdom recorded 16. Canada’s annual number peaked at 10 in 2023 and declined to six in 2025, while the UK recorded two incidents during 2025.
The figures require careful interpretation. They represent matters reported to or known by Indian missions and are not comprehensive national crime statistics. They are also not adjusted for the size of the Indian-origin population in each country. Consequently, the totals cannot by themselves establish that one country is statistically more dangerous than another.
