LUDHIANA, October 15:
In a novel way to create awareness among farmers regarding ill-effects of burning paddy straw/stubble, MLA Gill constituency Kuldeep Singh Vaid and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ludhiana Varinder Kumar Sharma on Wednesday, released a Punjabi Song narrating consequences of putting matchstick to paddy residue left in the field.
The song has been penned by Prof Gurbhajan Singh Gill and sung by Fatehgarh Sahib based singer Ram Singh Albela while the music was given by Raju Dhiman.
MLA Vaid and Deputy Commissioner also flagged-off 11 awareness vans, which will go village to village with this song playing to encourage farmers to refrain from burning paddy straw. The awareness vans are the initiative of the ATMA and Agriculture Department under “Paraali Sambhal Muhim-2020” and will cover all the villages in the district. Chairman Zila Parishad Yadwinder Singh Jandiali, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Sandeep Kumar, Chief Agriculture Officer Narinder Singh Benipal, were also present during the flag-off.
MLA Vaid and Deputy Commissioner honoured singer Ram Singh Albela and Music composer Raju Dhiman, who were present at the event while also appreciated the efforts of Prof Gurbhajan Singh Gill for penning a song for a social cause.
MLA Vaid urged farmers to manage stubble with mechanical way rather to burn it at the cost of Punjab. He said that hazardous smoke emerged from burning stubble was very harmful and it could cost lives, especially in these COVID-19 times.
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the purpose of sending these 11 awareness vans in villages was to sensitise farmers against stubble burning. He once again appealed farmers to abstain from burning paddy stubble citing that besides polluting the environment, hazardous gasses might aggravate the COVID-19 situation and could cost lives.
Project Director ATMA Jaspreet Singh Khera said that besides spreading awareness through awareness vans, they are also distributing pamphlets carrying information regarding side effects of stubble burning to farmers.
