Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has given relief to the domestic power consumers in the state ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections. The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission has reduced power tariffs for domestic consumers from 50 paise to Rs 1 per unit and provided relief to consumers to the tune of Rs 682 crore.
The order said that for domestic consumers with a load of up to 2 kW, the rates for the first 100 units have been reduced by Rs 1 and from 101 to 300 units by 50 paise per unit.

Similarly, for consumers from 2 kg to 7 kW, the price has been reduced by 75 paise for the first 100 units and then by 50 paise per unit from 101 to 300 units. It was informed that in this way consumers would get a benefit of Rs. 682 crore.
Apart from this, there was no increase in power tariff for small and medium industrial consumers and non-domestic consumers i.e. NRS consumers. For the agriculture sector, the power tariff has been increased by 9 paise, which will reduce the cross subsidy for the sector from 14.41 per cent to 12.05 per cent.
