The whole world which witnessed the worst kind of Covid19 pandemic had a drastic impact on overall business activity. There were lockdowns, everything was shut, schools, parks, shops, malls, restaurants, salons and parlors, cinema halls, manufacturing units big or small, and everything had come to a grinding halt. Many small organizations could not sustain the lockdown and had to close their business resulting in job loss. Big brands also could not save themselves from getting affected by this pandemic and had to cut the strength of their staff raising the rate of unemployment.

If the effect of pandemic was disastrous, it became an opportunity for some.

Home delivery of food business got a major push during the lockdown. Even the reputed restaurants where presentation of not only food but the ambience mattered had to change their policy from serving on the table to packed food delivery. There was a heavy demand for home delivered food as people were locked up in their homes. They could not go out for purchasing stuff for reasons like quarantine or the stocks at home had finished. People depended much on home delivered food. Even small eateries made it big as many communities gave big order of food which was distributed to health workers and labour colonies that had lost their jobs. Many housewives started lunchbox delivery from home mainly to bachelors and elderly people who preferred home cooked food to food from restaurants.

Brick and mortar retailers were hit hard by the lockdown. People could not go out for purchasing and they were left with only one option which was E-retailing. Online shopping took the centre stage with easy delivery system in place. It grew with leaps and bound. People found it most convenient to shop online from the comforts of their home. Not just the young tech savvy generation but even the hesitant older generation ordered their medicines online. What more can be expected from E-retailing when you can refill your pantry and the fridge with greens. Online shopping proved to be a boon during lock down and now it has become a habit.

During the lockdown when everything was shut and people could not go out of their homes, keeping oneself entertained and maintain sanity, they turned to internet for entertainment. Netflix, Prime Videos and other such over the top media grew in subscription. OTT platform widened its content catering to different sections of society. The entertainment industry which till now was limited to movie halls went online and spread across the globe.

Last but not the least, the growth of mask and sanitizer making companies cannot be ignored. Not only big companies even the tailor at the corner of the street made huge profits. People made herbal sanitizers at home and converted the situation into an opportunity.

Converting the odds into opportunity is not a common trait otherwise everybody would have a success story to tell. Pandemic proved it.
