Patiala: Both the government thermal plants in Punjab have been shut down due to shortage of coal. Official sources said that Ropar Thermal Plant and Lehra Mohabbat Thermal Plant have stopped generating power as coal has run out and it is difficult to operate both the plants.

Now Punjab is getting power from private thermal plants and besides running on hydro power unit.
Official sources said that 150 MW power has been received from GVK, 1236 MW from Talwandi Sabo and 1325 MW from Rajpura. Due to the rains, the demand for electricity has come down drastically and there have been no major cuts.
