Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau during its anti-corruption drive on Tuesday registered a bribery case against Jagandeep Singh, a Sub-Inspector (SI) of Punjab Police posted at Baghapurana police station, for accepting bribe of Rs 20,000.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said on 02.09.2021, a video clip regarding SI Jagandeep Singh went viral on social media while he was accepting bribe money. On the basis of an investigation report prepared by the Bureau this corruption case has been registered against the accused.
Giving more details, he added that Mandeep Singh alias Hipa, of village Kotla Mehar Singh Wala, Moga district, was arrested by Baghapurana police under NDPS Act after recovery of 190 drug pills from his possession. The above mentioned Jagandeep Singh received bribe of Rs 20,000 from the accuser’s brother Amandeep Singh in lieu of helping the accused Mandeep Singh.
During handing over this bribe money, Amandeep Singh and others have captured a video as a sting operation which went viral. In this video clip, currency notes of Rs. 20,000 was taken out from the back pocket of the trousers worn by Jagandeep Singh and matched with the numbers of the previously photostated notes. In the said video SI has admitted his mistake for taking bribe.
The spokesperson said that being a public servant, the accused S.I. Jagandeep Singh has committed an offense under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, due to which a case has been registered against him at Vigilance Bureau police station Ferozepur.
