Meet Hayer appreciates efforts of Council
Chandigarh : Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST) has received National Intellectual Property Award for 2021 & 2022 in the Category of Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC).
The award instituted by the Office of Controller General of Patents Designs & Trademark, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India was conferred by Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal on Dr. Jatinder Kaur Arora, Executive Director, PSCST during National IP Conference organized on the birth anniversary of the Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India.
The Science Technology & Environment Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer has appreciated the efforts of the Council towards building innovation and the IPR ecosystem in the state and to further augment the same, the Punjab government has recently allocated a grant of Rs.3 Crores to the Council.
Notably, TISC-Punjab is the Country’s first TISC set up in 2017 by the World Intellectual Property Organization-United Nations and Cell for IPR Promotion and Management-Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Government of India based on credentials of Patent Information Centre-PSCST which has been supporting innovators for protection of Intellectual Property (IP). It has set up a network of IPR Cells & IPR Clubs in the key universities and institutions in the state.
The Council has assessed the novelty of about 800 innovations and facilitated the filing of about 100 patents. It is also a designated Node of the Ministry of Science & Technology-GOI for training women IP professionals and a State Advisory Node for mentoring startups and enterprises on all IP issues. TISC-Punjab has not only been instrumental in the facilitation of licensing of technologies developed by its IPR Cells, especially during Covid times but has also been able to create an impact through the transfer of technologies developed/demonstrated by PSCST such as hybrid brick kilns with zigzag firing, natural fermented vinegar etc. thus contributing towards cleaner production, employment generation, skilling of manpower and enhancing the competitiveness of the industry.
