New duties covering products from wine to sporting goods are scheduled to take effect August 19
WASHINGTON/OTTAWA, July 22, 2026 — The United States has announced an additional 50% tariff on a wide range of Canadian goods, escalating trade tensions between the two closely integrated economies.
According to the U.S. Trade Representative, the duties will affect nearly $20 billion in annual Canadian imports. Products listed in the measures include wine, dairy goods, furniture, cement, clothing, fishing equipment, swimming pools and sporting goods such as hockey sticks.
