NEW DELHI, July 25, 2026 — Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned Saturday following weeks of nationwide demonstrations over examination-paper leaks and weaknesses in the country’s testing system.
The youth-led Cockroach Janta Party announced that it was ending its protests after the government said the movement’s demands had been accepted. Demonstrators celebrated at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and were asked by organizers to return home peacefully.
The movement intensified after leaked examination papers forced a retest affecting approximately two million candidates. Its demands included Pradhan’s resignation, examination reforms and the withdrawal of cases filed against protesters.
The crisis became one of the most significant youth-led political challenges faced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi since he first took office in 2014.
