Eligible Canadian Adults Can Now Renew Passports Online
VANCOUVER, July 29, 2026: Canada has expanded its online passport-renewal system to all eligible adult citizens currently residing in the country, removing the previous daily limit on digital applications.
Eligible applicants can submit their renewal form, commercially produced digital photograph and payment through the online system. In-person and mail applications will continue to be accepted.
To qualify for online renewal, an applicant must have both a residential and mailing address in Canada. The existing passport must generally have been issued within the previous 15 years and must either have expired or be due to expire within six months. The passport must also meet additional eligibility requirements, including conditions concerning damage, seizure, surrender and changes to personal information.
Applications submitted online are subject to a 20-business-day processing standard, excluding delivery time. An applicant’s current passport is cancelled after the online application is submitted. People requiring a passport sooner are therefore advised to use an eligible in-person service.
Online renewal is not presently available to Canadian citizens applying from outside Canada. The programme applies only to Canadian passports and does not change renewal procedures for Indian passports held by Indian citizens living in Canada.
The expanded service could benefit eligible Indo-Canadians by reducing paperwork and visits to Service Canada locations.
