Sikh communities across the United States marked the 14th anniversary of the 2012 attack on the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek. Six members of the congregation died during the attack, while Baba Punjab Singh—who had sustained serious injuries—died in 2020, bringing the eventual death toll to seven.
In its anniversary statement, the Sikh Coalition remembered the victims and highlighted the Oak Creek congregation’s resilience. The organization also renewed its appeal for stronger security planning at gurdwaras, improved public understanding of the Sikh faith and sustained action against religiously motivated hate.
The anniversary remains an important occasion for Sikh Americans to honour those who lost their lives while encouraging governments, schools and communities to confront prejudice through education and preventive measures.
