Indian diplomatic missions and diaspora communities across 54 countries participated in the Suryapath Tiranga Global Relay, a worldwide observance organized in connection with India’s Independence Day.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the relay followed the movement of sunrise across different time zones. It began in Fiji and travelled symbolically through Indian missions in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas before concluding in the western United States.
Members of the Indian diaspora, diplomatic officials and local “Friends of India” groups participated in flag-hoisting ceremonies and related cultural activities. The programme formed part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and also recognized the 150-year legacy of Vande Mataram.
The relay highlighted the geographic reach of overseas Indian communities and their continued cultural connection with India. It also provided diplomatic missions with a shared platform for community participation across multiple continents.
The initiative was commemorative in nature. It did not announce a new immigration measure, consular service or legal benefit for NRIs or OCI cardholders.
