Chinese President Xi Jinping will travel to Kyrgyzstan to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit before making a state visit to Egypt, China’s Foreign Ministry has announced.
Xi is expected to remain in Kyrgyzstan from August 30 to September 3. During the visit, he will attend the SCO leaders’ meeting in Bishkek and hold discussions with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. Talks are expected to focus on regional security, economic cooperation and relations between China and Central Asian countries.
After completing his engagements in Kyrgyzstan, Xi will travel to Egypt for meetings with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. It will be the Chinese president’s first state visit to Egypt in approximately a decade.
The trip comes as Beijing seeks to strengthen its diplomatic and economic presence across Central Asia and the Middle East. The SCO has also become an increasingly important platform for China to promote regional cooperation outside Western-led institutions.
