India’s Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed that 96 Indian nationals affected by the destructive floods in the Nepal–Tibet region crossed safely from China into Nepal.
The flooding caused widespread damage to roads, bridges and communication networks, leaving tourists and pilgrims stranded at several locations. Indian diplomatic missions have been coordinating with Chinese and Nepalese authorities to trace citizens and facilitate their movement from affected areas.
According to the ministry’s August 28 update, all 96 people who reached Nepal were safe. Assistance was being provided for their onward travel and contact with their families.
The announcement represents a significant update following earlier reports that numerous Indian visitors could not be contacted after the disaster. However, the confirmed arrival of these 96 nationals should not be interpreted as proof that every Indian previously reported missing or stranded has been located.
Search and relief operations remain underway across the disaster zone, and casualty and missing-person figures may change as access to remote areas improves.
