New state in-charge Satish Poonia indicates issue could become part of party’s political agenda
The Punjab BJP has signalled that ending what it describes as VIP culture could become part of its political agenda in the state. Newly appointed Punjab in-charge Satish Poonia set the tone by advocating a less privileged style of political functioning. It remains to be seen whether the BJP formally includes the issue in its manifesto for the 2027 Punjab Assembly election. Political parties in Punjab have made similar promises in the past, often focusing on official convoys, special privileges and political protocol. The effectiveness of any such commitment would ultimately depend on how broadly “VIP culture” is defined and whether reforms are implemented after elections.
