Toronto police have charged a 32-year-old man in connection with two incidents that investigators are treating as hate-motivated assaults against Sikh victims.
Police allege that the first confrontation occurred near Union Station, where a man brandished a knife and directed anti-Sikh remarks at a victim. No physical injuries were reported in that incident.
Approximately one hour later, another confrontation occurred near Queens Quay West and Lower Spadina Avenue. Investigators allege that anti-Sikh and racial slurs were made before a victim was stabbed in the leg. The injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
Lakshitha Arakmullage of Toronto faces several charges, including assault-related and weapons offences. The allegations have not been proven in court.
