United States – Police in suburban Chicago say they prevented a possible mass shooting after arresting 19-year-old Alexandros Paporakis on October 11. Authorities acted after the suspect’s coworkers reported receiving disturbing messages and material that allegedly described plans for an attack.
Investigators believe a Hindu place of worship in Aurora may have been the target, although police have not conclusively identified the intended location. Officers said a search produced an AR-style rifle, loaded magazines, ammunition and items displaying racist and Nazi-related imagery.
India has expressed concern and called on US authorities to investigate the case thoroughly while protecting the Indian community. Paporakis has been charged with making a terrorist threat and unlawfully possessing weapons. The accusations have not been proven in court. He remains in custody and is expected to return to court on October 30.
