Another person has fallen ill in Canada due to ongoing E. coli outbreak which is linked to romaine lettuce.
The outbreak has moved into a third province New Brunswick, so health officials are concerned about that as they scramble to pinpoint the source of the infection.
A broad warning to people right across the country has been issued to dispose of any romaine lettuce; worth noting it has a five-week shelf-life.
Till date 19 confirmed cases have been reported, three in Ontario, 15 in Quebec and one in New Brunswick.
The age range is from five years old and 93 years old amongst these 19 patients.
The E. coli infection often affects the young, those with compromised immune system.
The retailers are taking romaine lettuce off the shelves out of an abundance of caution.
A strong warning has been issued yesterday that do not eat, do not use and throw it out.
Tips to avoid getting sick –
- Throw out romaine lettuce.
- Wash your hands after touching it.
- Clean crisper, kitchen utensils.
Symptoms of E. coli infection –
- Nausea, vomiting.
- Headache, mild fever.
- Severe stomach cramps, watery/bloody diarrhea.
