Patiala 4th feb: Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala organsied one day awareness programme focused on the theme ‘I am and I will’ to mark ‘World Cancer Day-2020’. The Programme was organized in collaboration with District Health Department, Patiala as a part of a Multi year campaign for creating long lasting impact by increasing public exposure and engagement. A team of medical experts led by Dr. Harish Malhotra, Civil Surgeon, Patiala along with Dr. Anjana Gupta, Senior Medical Officer, Tripuri, Patiala, Dr. Sukhvinder Singh, Assistant Health Officer, Dr. Jatinder Kansal, District Nodal Officer and Mr. Krishan Kumar, Media Incharge, Civil Surgeon Office, Patiala interacted with the students.
College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the medical experts and said that we should work together to reduce cancer risk factors. He said that we may overcome barriers to early diagnosis, treatment and palliative care i.e. ensure safe and cancer-free societies. Dr. Anjana Gupta, Senior Medical Officer, elaborated the etiology of breast and cervical cancers among women and the precautionary measures to be taken for early detection and treatment. Dr. Sukhwinder Singh, Assistant Health Officer discussed with the students the types of cancers caused by consumption of tobacco products and to bring a change in life-styles.

Dr. Jatinder Kansal, District Nodal Officer, discussed various government schemes and relief measures started by the government including, ‘Chief Minister Relief Fund for Cancer’. Dr. Harish Malhotra, Civil Surgeon, Patiala encouraged the students to develop scientific temperament and to equip themselves with positive, logical and healthy life-styles to fight with such diseases. Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Head of Department of Chemistry motivated the students to become part of awareness campaign against cancer and to build healthy communities based on natural healing.
To mark ‘World Cancer Day-2020’ two competitions were also held by the college. In poster-making competition, Ms. Lovepreet Kaur (MSc-I Chemistry) won the first prize and second prize was bagged by Ms. Kritika (BSc-II). In ‘Slogan Writing’ competition first position was won by Ms. Sonia (BSc-II, Medical) and second position by Ankit (BSc-II, Medical). The stage was conducted by Dr. Gaganpreet Kaur. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Shailendra Sidhu, Head, Department of English. On this occasion, two persons Sh. Gurdial Singh and Sh. Harpal Singh were honoured for getting rid of addictive with the help of medical experts of the district. A large number of students and all faculty members were present on the occasion.
