374 VEHICLES CHALLANED AND 29 VEHICLES IMPOUNDED ON MARCH 4T

TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT STARTED SENSITIZATION CAMPAIGN TO EDUCATE SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS ABOUT SAFETY MEASURES FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN

Chandigarh, March 5:c Acting on the directives of Captain Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister Punjab, the Transport Department continued the statewide drive against the school buses illegally plying in the state in gross violation of the Motor Vehicle Act and School Vahan Scheme the Transport on March 4. The various teams of the department have checked 1015 vehicles across the state out of which 374 vehicles were challaned vehicles and 29 vehicles were impounded.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the Transport Department said that the Department in close coordination with the district administrations and police has launched a statewide crackdown against the school vehicles plying across the state in gross violation of the set norms and law. He said that on March 4 the teams comprising of Secretary RTAs, Assistant Transport Commissioners, Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) checked in total 1015 vehicles of which 374 were challaned besides 29 vehicles were impounded for not complying with the requisite parameters of Motor Vehicle Act and School Vahan Scheme.

The Transport department also launched sensitization campaign for the drivers to educate them about the various safety measures to ensure the safety of the school children. SDM Dhuri organised such workshop at Cambridge School, Dhuri last day to educate the school bus/van drivers about the stipulated norms regarding the security and safety of the school students.

The spokesperson further said that this campaign will continue in future against offenders to ensure that all such school vehicles must adhere to the stipulated norms for the security and safety of the school children under the name of ‘School Vahan Scheme’.
