In today’s times, we hear people talking, that men’s rule is going on everywhere in the world. This society is male-dominated. This is the situation not only in India but also abroad. Apart from this, many types of research have also been done, in which similar results are revealed. But is it all hundred % okay?
Statistics can be corrected in itself because research is done only in the respective places. This means that the data is correct according to the place where the survey happens. But there are many places in the world where women rule even today, but such research is not there. Because of that, the picture of the people can never come in front of them.
One of the places is Umoya village. These villages are located in the African country of Samburu county of Kenya. This is a village where only women live and rule them. The speciality of this village is that no men can enter here. Rosalina lirapora also lives in this village of northern Kenya. The 18-year-old Rosalina Lirapora, living in Umoja village, works as housework, burns wood and creates jewellery of colourful pearls.
Strict step taken against men
Rosalina’s age was just three years when she came here. Here a group of 48 women live in straw huts with their children. Men are banned in this village. If a man enters here, his information is given to the local police. He (men) is warned that he should not do so twice. If he tampers with women or commits any other crime, appropriate action is taken against him.
the beginning?
This village was started from a group of 15 women from the year 1990. In the vicinity of the trading border located near Samburu and Isioso, British soldiers had misbehaved with these women. After which, in their community, they were seen in the eyes of hatred, as if it were their mistake. Many miscreants are also those who say that after their crime, her husband treated her as insulting to the family and removed her from the house.
Gradually the village turned into a refugee place. Here all women are welcomed who are fired from their homes. Here are women suffering from problems in their married life, women suffering from mutilation, misbehaviour and other crimes. There are many women who come here after their husband’s death.
Rosalina Female came here to avoid genetic mutilation (practice like circumcision and breast iron). He never met his father Her father died when she was three years old. Her whole family was pushing her for mutilation, but her mother ran away from her house. These two mothers and daughters have been here for 15 years.
All the women living in Umoya belong to Samburu culture. This society is patriarchal and here practice is practised polygamy. Here the majority of facial mutilation is done. Women of all ages can live here. The women living here include the 98-year-old to the 6-month-old child. Many women start coming here only during pregnancy.
Many times it happens that their younger sons also come along with women. But they have to leave the village after being 18 years old. In the kind of huts, these people live, they are called as validities. These houses are made from cow’s dung, wood and twigs.
Here women live happily with full freedom. They do not need to get permission for any work here. Here, women make garlands of colourful beads. Which leads to their livelihood.
