Chandigarh –  Apprehending delay, diversion and derailing of the probe into the brutal assassination of Sidhu Moosewala, the Punjab Pradesh Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today asked the Punjab government and Punjab Police to present the status report of the case.

“The probe is not even moving at a snail’s pace and it looks Punjab Police have given up and are dependent on the police of other states only”, he said in a statement while underlining the need for a probe by some central agency. He pointed out, given the spread of accused across different states, it will be in the fitness of things that the probe be handed over to some central agency only.

“Sixteen days have passed since the brutal assassination of Moosewala and Punjab Police seem to be as clueless today, as they were on May 29”, Warring pointed out, adding, there was no headway in the probe so far.

The PCC president said, the Punjab Police are yet to make any authoritative statement on the progress of the probe. “So far we have been hearing that someone has been identified in Pune and nabbed from Gujarat not by the Punjab Police, but the Maharashtra Police”, he said, while observing that these seem to be diversionary tactics aimed at delaying and derailing the probe.

He said 16 days was enough time for the Punjab Police to reach some conclusive finding into the probe. “If they have identified and arrested some people, why are they not able to reach the actual culprits”, he asked, while adding, “or the Punjab Police want us to believe the claims made on the social media only”.

“The more the probe gets delayed, the more chances of the actual culprits getting away with the crime”, the PCC president warned, while adding that the murder has shaken people of Punjab and there was an atmosphere of fear prevailing everywhere. If Punjab Police are not able to bring culprits to justice, it will not only send a wrong signal, but will embolden the criminals further.
