Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary, on Wednesday, informed that th ‘Udaan Yojana’ to provide free sanitary pads to the women and girls of poor families will be launched on May 28 on the occasion of ‘World Menstrual Hygiene Day’.

Divulging further, Mrs. Chaudhary said that the state Government led by Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh was committed for the empowerment of women. “And, under this new scheme personal hygiene of the women folks would be ensured by providing them sanitary pads through Anganwadi workers throughout the state”, she mentioned, adding that this scheme would be the another commendable step, which would help in empowering the women-hood. She said that earlier the state government had provided free travel facility to all the women of the state in government buses besides ensuring 33% reservation for them in government jobs and 50% reservation in PRIs and ULBs elections.
