The wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, has filed a defamation case against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi. The case comes amid a war of words between the two politicians over Riniki’s alleged involvement in receiving a credit-linked subsidy from the Central Government.

Responding to the allegation, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma said that her company, Pride East Entertainments Pvt. Ltd., is a law-abiding company with all its financial records in the public domain. She said that the company is eligible to participate in government-supported programs/incentive schemes, but has not claimed or received a single paisa of government subsidy in the present case, pertaining to the PM Kisan Sampada Scheme.

Riniki said that Gogoi’s allegations are an attack to malign and defame her company and its employees. She has filed a defamation case against him in the court of law, seeking damages of Rs 10 crore.

This comes after Riniki’s husband and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to lash out at Gogoi. He wrote, “Yes, I am agitated. There have been numerous reasons for my anger against your family since 2010. I am confident that we will meet in court, and once again, I will be able to prove my point. I have successfully done so in 2016 and 2021, and I am determined to do it again, both in the People’s Court and in a court of law.”

The defamation case is likely to further escalate the war of words between the two politicians. It remains to be seen how the case will unfold and what its outcome will be.
