Chandigarh – Punjab Government led by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has released funds to the tune of Rs. 34 crore for providing potable drinking water in the villages, where the ground water was not drinkable.

Giving details in this regard Punjab Water Supply & Sanitation Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa stated that the State Government was making stupendous efforts to ensure supply of clean water in those villages, where the ground water was contaminated under surface water project. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann directed to release Rs. 34 crore for the potable water supply in five such divisions facing water contamination.

The Minister said that Chief Minister had announced to provide all facilities to the people, said the Minister adding that the State Government was ensuring the requisite facilities at the doorsteps of people. He said that the basic amenities were also being provided to the residents of rural areas especially the clean drinking water. He said that surface water supply was also part of these initiatives in five divisions namely Rajpura, Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka, Abobar and Gurdaspur.

The funds of Rs. 34.44 crore will ensure the potable water supply in the villages of these divisions. He said that Water Supply & Sanitation Department was also taking significant steps for getting the clean water supply ensured in the villages where the quality of water is poor.

Water Supply & Sanitation Department’s Principal Secretary D.K. Tiwari and Head of Department Mohammad Ishfaq while giving information said that of these funds Rs. 10.01 crore had been released for Mandoli scheme of Rajpura and Rs. 11.18 crore for Pabra. Similarly, Rs. 2 crore will be disbursed for Nanowal village’s scheme in Fatehgarh Sahib district while Rs. 3.52 crore for Ghatean Wala Bodla and Sohangarh in Fazilka district. Likewise, Rs. 2.70 crore has been released for Patrewala of Abohar besides releasing Rs. 5.02 crore for supplying water through underground pipes of village Kunjar scheme.

The senior officers of the department directed the field officials to ensure the supply of clean drinking water at the requisite areas by accomplishing the tasks with utmost responsibility and commitment.
