Canada’s ambassador to China has now met with two Canadian men detained in China on suspicion of posing a threat to national security.

Global Affairs confirms Sunday that Canada was given access to Michael Spavor for a counselor meeting.

Two days after a similar meeting took place with Michael Kovrig.

Citing provisions to the Privacy Act, Global Affairs released a few details about Sunday’s meeting, “Today, Canada was granted consular access to Michael Spavor. Ambassador McCallum met with him today. Canadian consular officials continue to provide consular services to him and his family and will continue to seek further access to Mr. Spavor. Due to the provisions of the Privacy Act, no further information can be disclosed.”

Spavor, an entrepreneur, originally from Calgary has been working in Northeast Asia for nearly two decades, traveling often to North Korea.

Spavor and Kovrig were kicked up in China days after RCMP arrested Chinese tech executive Meng Wanzhou and are believed to be in custody of China’s Ministry of State Security.
