Chandigarh: Punjab Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Dr. Rajkumar Verka today said that the alleged scholarship scam was being investigated in a very impartial and transparent manner and five officers and employees had been charged following the initial reports. The Cabinet Minister said that those against whom chargesheets have been filed include Deputy Director Parminder Singh Gill, DCFA Charanjit Singh, SO Mukesh Bhatia, Superintendent Rajinder Chopra and Senior Assistant Rakesh Arora.

Dr. Rajkumar Verka said that if any other person was found involved in the alleged Post-Matric SC Scholarship scam, action would be taken against him soon and he would personally ensure an impartial and transparent inquiry into the matter. He said that strict action would now be taken against the colleges which had misappropriated SC scholarship funds and failed to repay the amount. He said that the officers of the department have been directed to take strict action against such organizations and send the action report to their offices on daily basis.

Dr. Verka said he would not tolerate any injustice to minorities at any level and would personally ensure strict action in such cases. He said that his government was committed to extend the benefits of social welfare schemes to the real beneficiaries and no stone would be left unturned to uplift the living standards of the needy.
