The release of Indian prisoner Hamid Nihal Ansari was announced by Pakistan.
He was arrested and lodged in the Peshawar jail over the possession of fake Pakistan identity on December 15, 2015.
Ansari was detained in Pakistan in 2012 for illegally entering the country from Afghanistan, reportedly to meet a girl, he had befriended online.
He traveled to Kohat, Peshawar “illegally” in order to rescue the woman he loved, from being forced to get married.
Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson, Mohammad Faisal said, “Ansari is being released upon completion of his sentence and is being repatriated to India.”
He claimed that Ansari was “an Indian spy who illegally entered Pakistan “forcefully married.
Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj on November 2015 said that the MEA had made 52 requests to Pakistan for consular access to Ansari.
