Chandigarh, May 2: Aiming at mitigate the woes of common man during the curfew/lockdown, the Punjab Government has initiated the distribution process of wheat and pulses to the smart ration card holders   in the state.                                       

 

Disclosing this here today, Punjab Food & Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Mr. Bharat Bhushan Ashu said that Punjab Government led by Captain Amarinder Singh is committed for the well being of the people in this crisis situation. With this commitment, we have started the grain distribution to 36 lakh families of the state, which would be benefited for more than 1.40 crore people of the state.

 

Further apprising about the initiative, Mr. Ashu said that distribution of pulses is going on full swing in District Amritsar, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Mohali, Patiala, Ropar, Sangrur after arrival stock of the same.

 

The Minister said that Punjab government has provided 5kg wheat per person to all smart card holders of the state at free of cost under the National Food Security Act, 2013 as per Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana.  He said that we have decided to distribute the quota of three month and the process is going on to distribute the 15 kg wheat and 3 kg of pulses per person for three months.  This is in addition to wheat and pulses being distributed together for six months under the National Food Security Act, 2013.

 

Mr. Ashu said that this distribution was being underway by the department adhered to the instructions issued by health department. He informed that the distribution in the remaining districts of the state will start from May 10, 2020, which includes Barnala, Bathinda, Fazilka, Mansa, Moga, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Sri Mukatsar Sahib, Tarn Taran and Pathankot.
