Washington: Facebook on Friday suspended the account of former US President Donald Trump for two years. Earlier in May, the social media network’s Oversight Board voted in favor of maintaining the suspension of Trump’s Facebook account. Trump’s account was suspended following the January 6 violence in the US House of Representatives. Trump was accused of inciting his supporters to the incident.

The board said in May that “it would not be appropriate for Facebook to impose a standard-less penalty for indefinite suspension.” There is a six-month period to determine the “seriousness of the violation and the potential for harm in the future.”
The board said Facebook should be able to immediately detect further violations if it decides to restore Trump’s account. Trump has been permanently banned from the micro-blogging site Twitter.
