Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena telephoned Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on Wednesday to firmly deny the reports about him hinting at the involvement of India in an alleged plot to assassinate the former Defence Secretary and President of Sri Lanka.
Sirisena stated to Modi that the roguish and deceptive reports were absolutely false and baseless, and on purpose to build misunderstanding between the two leaders and damaging the jovial relations between the two friendly neighbours.
The Sri Lankan President acquainted Modi of the vital steps taken by him and his government to reject these reports publicly.
As per sources, Modi respected the prompt steps taken by Sirisena and his administration to categorically counter the mischievous reports by clarifying the matters openly.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “The attention of the ministry of foreign affairs has been drawn to media reports attributed to President Maithripala Sirisena alleging the involvement of an Indian Intelligence Service in a plot to assassinate him.”
