KABUL — Afghanistan’s Defence Ministry says its forces killed 41 fighters and captured 62 in Nuristan province between September 27 and 29. Kabul described the group as Islamic State-linked insurgents who crossed from Pakistan with alleged Pakistani support.
Pakistan has rejected similar accusations in the past. The UN recorded more than 1,100 civilian deaths and injuries from Afghanistan’s cross-border violence this year.
Why it matters: Escalating accusations and clashes risk opening a wider Afghanistan–Pakistan confrontation while providing armed organizations more operating space. AP News
