Amritsar: The first sitting of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was celebrated with devotion and respect by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. In this connection, after the bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib at Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib, Nagar Kirtan was performed as per Sikh tradition till Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib. Gurdwara shri ramsar sahib is the historical site where the fifth patshah shri guru Arjun Dev ji edited the first Guru Granth Sahib  in 1604 AD. Before the Nagar Kirtan, which was decorated on the occasion of the first Parkash Purab under the canopy of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and led by Panj Piaras, the present ragi jathas performed Gurbani Kirtan and after the prayers, the Holy Hukamnama Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib Listened.

During the departure of Nagar Kirtan, Singh Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh and Shiromani Committee President Bibi Jagir Kaur honored the Panj Piaris, Nishanchis and Nigarchi Singhs with Guru Blessings. Sharing his views with the sangat in the earlier decorated diwan, Singh Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh congratulated the Sikh world on the first Prakash Gurpurab and shared with the sangat the history of the day. He said that after the editing of Guru Granth Sahib by Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the first Parkash was held at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib on this day, in whose memory the sangats perform Nagar Kirtan every year as per Panthic tradition. Giani Jagtar Singh appealed to the Sangat to adhere to the principles of Gurbani and encouraged the children to become proficient in Gursikhi.

Meanwhile, the President of the Shiromani Committee Bibi Jagir Kaur congratulated the Guru Nanak Nam Leva Sangat on the first day of Prakash and appealed them to follow the teachings of Holy Gurbani. He said that Guru Granth Sahib Ji embraces the whole world and guides man in every aspect of life. During Nagar Kirtan, Sikh youth performed Gatka and Shabdi Jathas sang Shabad to show their devotion. Meanwhile, langars of various delicacies were also set up by the devotees at various places.
